.tel names now support the hCard microformat, OpenID and Open Authentication (OAuth)

All .tel names now support the hCard microformat, OpenID and Open Authentication (OAuth). Dot tel also supports the DataPortability Project (http://dataportability.org), and has signed on its Portability Policy Initiative.

“With these enhancements, .tel owners can now benefit from being more discoverable and begin to utilize their .tel domain in conjunction with more services,” said Henri Asseily, CTO and Chief Strategist for Telnic Limited. “With the introduction of support for these standards, .tel becomes more useful to and more manageable for individuals to use as a single authoritative source of information online across multiple services.”

Telnic has also published its Data Portability Policy at http://www.telnic.org/portabilitypolicy.html. Elias Bizannes, Chairman of the DataPortability Project said: “Telnic’s support for these open standards enables true interoperability – companies can integrate their own products against Telnic’s suite with minimal effort and maximum future-capability. By also adopting a Portability Policy, they are enabling clearer communication with their stakeholders as they evolve.” Read more…

.tel management updates

New updates to the telhosting interface allow you to:

  1. Rename folders Managing your sub-domains has just become so much easier. You can now rename a folder, and all links to it throughout your domain will be updated automatically. Note that the opposite won’t work: editing a “Go to” link to a folder does not change the folder name.
  2. Give your .tel a title You can now change the default title of your .tel page to any text you like—so nestle.tel can now say Nestlé! Use any language and special characters, and up to 255 bytes of text, individual for every folder. Just click Edit for the heading above the Profile menu on the Dashboard.
  3. Show off your usernames With the new username type in Contact items, you can add all your gaming handles, virtual characters and usernames to your .tel page. Your .tel is now your virtual identity! Create a new contact item “username” with the name and add a comment for details.

Now you can advertise on .tel domains with TelAds

.tel owners can now store and display sponsored weblinks, sponsored telephone numbers and related content on their .tel domains to both monetize and enhance the discovery of them through search engines.

Following the announcement in August at TelCamp Toronto of a new type of record being made available to .tel owners to store TelAds in the DNS, the web proxy has now been enhanced to display TelAds in a format appropriate for both PC-based and mobile device-based browsers. Up to twelve ads or pieces of related content can be hosted per .tel sub-folder, with a .tel domain supporting up to 3,000 sub-folders.

These sponsored link TelAds and related content records will enable .tel owners to further monetize their .tel domains, either through pay-per-click or pay-per-call links. Additionally, text-based content can be served to these records, enabling .tel domain owners to sign up to automated content providers and easily refresh the content on their .tel domains to enable better search engine optimization and re-indexing.

A whitepaper enabling .tel owners to find out more about TelAds can be found at http://dev.telnic.org/docs/advertisements.pdf. A paper is also available for potential ad serving networks and related content providers discussing how to identify and deliver appropriate content to .tel domains at http://telnic.org/downloads/tel-ads.pdf

A free tool is available for inserting adverts onto any .tel domain. In fact, you can insert up to 12 adverts per folder, and with a max of 3,000 folders per site, theoretically you can have thousands of ads inside one tel domain.
