Now you can advertise on .tel domains with TelAds

September 23rd, 2009 dottel 1 comment

.tel owners can now store and display sponsored weblinks, sponsored telephone numbers and related content on their .tel domains to both monetize and enhance the discovery of them through search engines.

Following the announcement in August at TelCamp Toronto of a new type of record being made available to .tel owners to store TelAds in the DNS, the web proxy has now been enhanced to display TelAds in a format appropriate for both PC-based and mobile device-based browsers. Up to twelve ads or pieces of related content can be hosted per .tel sub-folder, with a .tel domain supporting up to 3,000 sub-folders.

These sponsored link TelAds and related content records will enable .tel owners to further monetize their .tel domains, either through pay-per-click or pay-per-call links. Additionally, text-based content can be served to these records, enabling .tel domain owners to sign up to automated content providers and easily refresh the content on their .tel domains to enable better search engine optimization and re-indexing.

A whitepaper enabling .tel owners to find out more about TelAds can be found at http://dev.telnic.org/docs/advertisements.pdf. A paper is also available for potential ad serving networks and related content providers discussing how to identify and deliver appropriate content to .tel domains at http://telnic.org/downloads/tel-ads.pdf

A free tool is available for inserting adverts onto any .tel domain. In fact, you can insert up to 12 adverts per folder, and with a max of 3,000 folders per site, theoretically you can have thousands of ads inside one tel domain.

Momentum for .tel domain grows

September 22nd, 2009 dottel No comments

Telnic Limited (http://telnic.tel), the registry operator for new communications focused .tel top level domain (TLD), today announced that as momentum for .tel domains grow in the UK, BT Business is set to launch an advertising campaign across Bloomberg Television and a new website at http://bt.com/tel.

Carl di Cicco, Head of eCommerce for BT Business, said: “With a .tel, BT Business customers will now be able streamline their contact information by giving out a name or branded contact point rather multiple addresses and numbers. Additionally, this can be accessed from any device and even dialed directly by some phones. The vision of people dialing names and not numbers in future is one that BT subscribes to and, as such, .tel is an important offering for our customers.”

Adding to the BT launch news, recognition of the innovation and potential that .tel is bringing to the communications industry has also come from The British Computing Society and IT industry publication Computing, with Telnic being shortlisted as a finalist in the inaugural UK IT Industry Awards in 2009. “The UK is the second largest market for .tel domains after North America, so we’re excited to see the momentum and recognition and support from the technology industry and partners building,” said Justin Hayward, Communications Director for Telnic.

“With the recent interest from individuals in vanity domain names for recognition and branding online, added to the ease of use and low cost, .tel domains can now be a mainstream consideration for individuals, professionals and businesses of all sizes.”

Telnic will also soon be exhibiting at further UK events later this year. More information about .tel domains can be found at ad:tech London on 22nd – 24th September as well as Digital Engagement on 6th October. Telnic also confirmed that it would again be a sponsor of The Business Startup Exhibition on November 26th and 27th at Earls Court Olympia.

.tel Story of Bernard Giraudeau

July 28th, 2009 dottel No comments

bgiraudeau1 .tel Story of Bernard GiraudeauBernardGiraudeau.tel –  Bernard Giraudeau, actor, writer and director has recently got his .tel – reports ToutPointTel, the French-speaking .tel website.

He speaks directly and emotionally, but isn’t too chatty or focused on technical trivia, which is very refreshing for me, somebody who’s been professionally involved in the high-tech industry for so long.

Bernard, what’s your relation with IT, Internet, and technology in general?

None. I’m an old dog, not a fan of tech gadgets in the least. I don’t own an iPhone, I write most of my books by hand, and I’m hardly interested in technology at all.

Then why did you get a .tel?

Because I find it very simple and easy contrary to many complex devices that I gave up on.

You travel a lot. What do you think of SOS1.tel, a .tel website with emergency numbers in 134 countries?

I think it’s an excellent idea because it’s simple and practical. If you’re in trouble, use SOS1.tel and in a few seconds you’re connected to the emergency rescue service that you need.
Of course, the website isn’t of much use to those that, like me, mostly travel in remote areas far from everything. If you’re in the midst of the Philippine jungle, SOS1.tel will be less useful than if you fell victim or witnessed violance in the streets of Manilla. At the same time, Manilla is far more dangerous than the jungle…

Can you comment on your future literary and film projects?

I don’t have any plans at the moment. I’ve just finished promoting my latest book (Cher amour, published by Editions Metailie) and I need some rest. May prepare some lectures, write a bit, but certainly nothing for movies.

TelStats adds measurement to tel domains

July 25th, 2009 dottel No comments

Telnic Limited (www.telnic.org), the registry operator for the new communications-focused .tel top level domain (TLD), today announced that it had released TelStats, its free web traffic measurement service for owners of .tel domains, in beta.

“As .tel domains are not traditional web pages, until now it has not been possible to measure web traffic of a .tel domain,” said Henri Asseily, CTO and Chief Strategist at Telnic, “With the release of TelStats, .tel owners can now add the understanding of who is visiting them over the web as well as how they choose to contact them through the .tel.”

The new TelStats service, accessible from https://telstats.nic.tel enables .tel domain owners to access information on web visits to their .tel domains and import the data into their favourite analytics tools. .tel information has been logged since May 27th onwards and will be stored on a daily basis moving forward.

.tel owners can log in using the TelFriends credentials (gained from http://telfriends.tel) associated with the relevant domain to prevent unauthorized access and then select a period of time to measure. The system will retrieve all the .tel domain names associated with the TelFriends account, providing a log for one, multiple, or all .tel domains.

Analysis can be performed at times of days as well as over longer periods of time. The service is provided as with other Telnic offerings using open source code, enabling .tel owners to call the log script programmatically and feed it into their own front-end solutions.

The current version of the service is in beta, and logs are provided in the standard Apache log format that can be parsed by any web log analyzer to display the data graphically. The list of popular web analyzer tools is on wiki page referenced from the web form. These logs do not include traffic to the domain from Telnic and third-party applications looking up information directly in the DNS.

Manage .tel domain in 11 languages

July 25th, 2009 dottel No comments

Telnic Limited (www.telnic.org), the registry operator for the new communications focused .tel top level domain (TLD), today announced that, as well as being able to view .tel domains in 11 languages on the web, customers can now also manage their .tel domains in those languages from today.

With well over 200,000 .tel domains registered since General Availability on March 24th customers from all over the world have been benefitting from the .tel domain. Languages now supported include English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

“Kebab shops in Algiers and dermatologists in New York through to hotels in Vietnam have all been happily using .tel domains, but we’re very pleased to be able to open the .tel domain up to many more people around the world,” said Justin Hayward, Communications Director at Telnic Limited. “The .tel is a revolution in simplifying and lowering the cost of publishing on the internet under an individual’s own space and we want to remove as many barriers for as many people to take advantage of this as possible.”

User guides have also be translated in conjunction with the control panel, access to which is supplied to .tel registrants through ICANN accredited registrars or .tel service providers. To view the control panel and guides in the language of their choice, users can simply change the settings on their browsers.

    .tel Story of Oleg Baskakov

June 17th, 2009 dottel No comments

oleg baskakov thumbnail .tel Story of Oleg BaskakovOleg Baskakov is a Java Developer living in Moscow, Russia. He has rich experience in a wide range of software development projects, including development of the mobile client-server platform for social network Gorod Znakomstv (“City of dating”) at Nikita, through to an SMS-delivery system in a MFM Solutions start-up, as well as working on the reporting systems for BNP Paribas bank whilst at software consulting company Neoflex.

He is currently working for premier Russian digital agency Actis Wunderman. However, Oleg is also the person behind bigcity.tel, an innovative .tel domain that automatically updates weather and activity information about big cities around the world.

“Many people remember the computer culture of demo-making in the 90s – a peculiar atmosphere of searching for creative solutions and developing impossible things, driving on the maximum of computer resources. Today, assembler code and byte optimization algorithms have lost their relevance, but in their time they opened new horizons for creative technology. Telnic has demonstrated this type of creativity by making an extraordinary present to all progressive people. Yes, I’m talking about .tel – an innovative take on traditional technologies. The .tel creates a multitude of possibilities for cutting-edge software which, in my opinion, have started a portable revolution in the domain industry.”

“When I first heard about .tel, I didn’t think it was particularly revolutionary, but the spherical image of the .tel logo hypnotized me! I couldn’t resist this power and fell into learning about .tel and its technical specifications. I was soon impressed by the domain’s capabilities and a fire of new ideas on how to leverage .tel blew up my mind, to the extent that I froze my current project for Google Andriod and switched on to .tel.”

“The main objective as I see it of a .tel domain is as a useful management of contact information, but the potential provided by this platform is much greater. bigcity.tel has been planned to expose some of that potential and show everybody how .tel domain owners might develop these opportunities. Sometimes I need certain information about weather and upcoming concerts, but have no computer access.” Read more…
